Report a hate crime

If you are the victim of hate crime or see it happening to someone else please report it to the police on 101 or if you or someone else is in immediate danger, always call 999.

If you do not feel comfortable talking to the police about what happened there are other organisations you can report hate crime to:

What a hate crime is

A hate crime is when someone commits a crime against you because of your:

  • Disability
  • Gender identity
  • Race, ethnicity or nationality
  • Religion, faith or belief
  • Sexual orientation
  • Any other actual or perceived difference

A hate crime can be:

  • Physical violence
  • Theft or damage to property
  • Someone using offensive language towards you
  • Someone harassing you because of who you are (or who they think you are)
  • Someone posting abusive or offensive messages about you online.

We won’t tolerate behaviour where someone is targeted and made to feel uncomfortable in our homes or communities because of who they are or what they believe.
