In 2019 Kirklees Council declared a climate emergency. The Energy & Affordable Warmth Team are working towards the carbon neutral target by looking at our housing stock and how we can reduce carbon emissions. We are working with our tenants to try to lower their fuel bills by carrying out energy saving measures in their homes and we are championing renewable technologies to heat and provide hot water.
What we are doing at Kirklees
We have lots of exciting projects planned including working with our partners on the Local Authority Delivery Scheme (LAD). These schemes can improve the energy efficiency of your home by making improvements such as insulation and additions of renewable technologies for providing your heating and hot water. Your property must be eligible by being rated as a band D or lower on an EPC, at this time band C, B and A properties do not qualify. For tenants to qualify for these schemes they need to have a household income of less than £30,000 per year. For more information about this you can email EnergyTeam@kirklees.gov.uk
We are also carrying out our first full house retrofits as a pilot scheme at Abbey Road in Fartown and we will be fitting renewable technologies to provide heating and hot water. The retrofit is the first we have undertaken and it is a pilot on just 8 properties. The properties were chosen in collaboration with our Architects Michael Dyson Associates
